The age 6 cards: Long vowels

The age 6 deck has 100 cards. Long vowels come in two kinds here: the silent e at the end (cake, kite, bone, cube) and two vowels together (tree, rain, boat, moon). Then 38 sight words from the Dolch first grade list.

Pick how hard: Easy gives the letters in order and shows faint letters in the tray. Mix mixes the letters up. Tricky hides the word and adds two extra letters, so your child sounds it out from the picture.

What are long vowels?

A long vowel says its own name, like the a in cake or the o in boat. Children learn them through the silent e (cake, kite) and vowel teams like ee, ai and oa (tree, rain, boat).

Which sight words are for first grade?

The Dolch first grade list has 41 words, like after, could, once and were. The game has 38 of them at age 6; stop and think are in the age 4 and 5 decks, and live is not in the game yet.
