Free kindergarten learning games
Spelling games for kindergarten, free and calm. Children build CVC words, then sh, ch and th words, and practice the Dolch primer sight words.
What kindergarten spelling covers here
- CVC words like cat, pig and sun: the base of reading. Many children review them early in the year.
- Digraphs: sh, ch, th and wh, two letters making one sound.
- Dolch primer sight words: all 52 are in the game's age 5 deck.
- Blends like fr and st, for children ready for longer words.
In the classroom or at home
The games run in a web browser with no accounts, so they work on class tablets and on a whiteboard. Nothing about a child is collected or kept. A round is 5 words, then "All done", which makes a natural stopping point in a center rotation.
Word lists print cleanly: try CVC words with pictures or the digraph word list.
Questions parents ask
Which sight words does a kindergartner need?
Schools pick their own lists. Many use the Dolch pre-primer and primer lists, 92 words in all. The game has the primer list in full at age 5 and 38 of the 40 pre-primer words at age 4.
Does my child need to read?
No. Each card shows a picture and the voice says the word and every letter, so a child can spell by listening and matching. Sight words have no picture: the child taps the ear to hear the word.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no sign-in, nothing to download and nothing to buy inside the games. It runs in the web browser on phones, tablets and computers.
